Therapy

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapists (PTs) at Orthopedic Associates work closely with our physicians to help restore patient function, improve mobility and relieve pain. The Physical Therapist will examine your medical history and then test and measure your strength, range of motion, balance and coordination, posture, and muscle performance. Based on this information, your PT develops a plan including a treatment strategy and anticipated outcomes.

Treatment typically includes strengthening exercises, hands-on techniques and patient/family education. PTs also may show you functional activities and exercises specific to your needs. Throughout the course of treatment, your PT is in constant communication with your physician to identify areas requiring more or less attention. Your PT will document your progress, conduct periodic examinations and modify treatments when necessary.

Occupational Therapy

Surgical and nonsurgical orthopedic patients often need comprehensive occupational therapy to regain function and ensure quality of life. Our physicians and Occupational Therapists (OTs) assess all aspects of your life that may affect your ability to function independently and perform self-care, household work and other activities. Our goal is to help you achieve your maximum potential and resume the tasks of daily living and working. Treatment may include:

  • Custom-designed static and dynamic splints for protection and enhanced function
  • Thermal and electrical modalities to improve soft tissue response
  • Joint mobilization and exercise to improve range of motion
  • Joint protection and ergonomic strategies to prevent further injury
  • Physical exercise and strengthening to improve overall function.

During the course of treatment, your OT will document your progress, conduct periodic examinations and modify treatments when necessary. Your OT is in constant communication with your physician to identify areas requiring more or less attention.
