Back to Hand and Elbow

Is it possible to get rid of golfer's elbow, once and for all?

It sounds too good to be true: a 15-minute, minimally invasive procedure that eliminates the nagging pain that occurs on the inside of a golfer's elbow?

"Yes," says Dr. Brent Bamberger, a hand and upper extremity orthopedic surgeon who’s used the procedure successfully on many patients at Orthopedic Associates of SW Ohio. The pain of golfer’s elbow doesn’t have to keep you off the course or away from your favorite activities.

FAST (Focused Aspiration of Scar Tissue) removes tendon scar tissue – the source of pain – without disturbing healthy tendon tissue. "It’s the same technology used to take cataracts out of the eye," he explains. Ultrasonic energy is used to break down and remove damaged tendon tissue.

Afterward, the patient is pain free and can return home. "Patients usually start strengthening exercises two days later and can return to normal activities – nothing over the top – if there isn’t much swelling," he said. "In two to three weeks, the patient is symptom-free."

FAST is the newest, most technologically advanced option for removing tendon pain.

To see if this procedure can help your nagging elbow pain, schedule an appointment with Dr. Bamberger to discuss your options.
